With the new Stealth 2 launching in February I thought it would be a good idea to put it to the test against the first generation Stealth. In this article I put these two up against each other testing out ball speed, spin, launch, clubhead speed and distance.
We tested the Stealth Plus models as these heads suit my swing the best. They are both incredible drivers, both feel very good off the face and sound great. The Stealth 2 Plus came out on top compared to the Stealth Plus, however by a very small margin.
Let’s dive into some details around the testing.
What is new in the TaylorMade Stealth 2 driver?
New 60x Carbon Twist Face
The first generation Stealth driver featured the very controversial carbon face, the second generation Stealth 2 continues with the carbon face. The new version of 60X Carbon Twist Face increases ball speed and weighs in at 24g, which is 2g less than the original.
Carbon Ring
Similar to the SIM2 the Stealth 2 reintroduces the carbon ring. This time it is slightly different, instead of the lightweight aluminum it is now a carbon composite material, which makes it even lighter. This is going to save weight and increase forgiveness.
The red carbon ring makes the head look larger from the address position as well as makes the head look more square at address..
New Look
The Stealth 2 range now features are glossy look, this is a first from TaylorMade for many years, as their drivers usually feature a matte finish.
Stealth 2 Plus
The Stealth 2 Plus driver now features a 15g sliding weight as well as a 15g back weight. This increases MOI by 9% as well as adds that extra adjustability with regards to shot shaping.
These are the main differences that you will find in the Stealth 2 drivers, however in true TaylorMade style there never goes a model without improvements to the rest of the technology. There is a new nanotexture cover which optimizes launch conditions, the asymmetric inertia generator is improved reducing drag and increasing clubhead speed, and the thru-slot speed pocket is improved keeping ball speeds high on shots struck low on the face.
