PING G430 Irons – Review

Written By TJ Biggs

PING have always made great irons, their performance is great providing exceptional forgiveness. For me personally I always found them lacking distance and feel. They felt too clunky, if you know what I mean.

The PING G430 iron has definitely changed that. The sound and feel is much better than their previous models, and although the distance doesn’t keep up with their competitors, there is an improvement in the latest model.

The PING G430 irons excel at helping players handle mishits, making them a compelling choice for those seeking forgiveness in their iron set. If you value consistency and forgiveness, read on.

Key Features Of The PING G430 Irons

Looks

While known for their forgiveness, the PING G430 irons have been steadily evolving toward a more compact design over the past few generations. The G430 features a medium heel-to-toe length and a well-shaped offset, far from the bulkiest in the game improvement category. The top line, though not  super thin, is modest and thoughtfully rounded to give it a sleek appearance.

From the back they also look great, with the PurFlex Technology badge giving you good visuals.

As a scratch golfer I am used to not seeing much from the address position. The G430 irons to my eye look a bit chunky and with the longer iron you can start to see the trailing edge of the club. For some that is ok, but for me that is a bit off putting.

Sound & Feel

The PING G430 irons give you a satisfying sound at impact. Center strikes produce a medium-loud “snap,” while hits on the edges of the face result in a dull “thud.” The irons deliver a firm impact, you can almost feel the ball shooting off the face, especially on well-struck shots. This tactile feedback is precise, allowing you to easily distinguish between toe, heel, and thin hits.

Performance

While distance is certainly a standout feature of the PING G430 irons, it’s their ability to handle mishits that truly shines. The PurFlex Technology, with the help of the tungsten weights in the toe and shaft tip, provides exceptional stability. This stability ensures that even shots significantly off-center remain playable, a testament to PING’s commitment to forgiveness.

Additionally, the G430 irons feature stronger lofts and shorter hosels, further enhancing their distance potential. Despite these changes, the irons maintain descent angles just under 45 degrees through the mid irons, allowing for consistent carry and the ability to hold greens.

It’s worth noting PING’s extensive fitting options. They offer a variety of stock shafts and three loft configurations – standard, Power Spec (stronger), and Retro Spec (weaker) – catering to players seeking different ball flight profiles. The High Launch build – G430 HL – includes a lighter shaft, grip, and head weights to help golfers generate more swing speed and distance.

Control & Forgiveness

The forgiveness of these irons is incredible. Every shot I hit almost had no shape on it. Having said that it obviously limits your ability to hit fades and draws.

I was able to hit the ball high and low at will, however I did struggle when it came to hitting a fade or draw. This is down to the irons having so much forgiveness the ball just comes out straight.

As a high handicap player this is great, however if you are looking to shape the ball then maybe these irons are not for you.

Value For Money

Coming in at $1100 these are pricey. Are they worth it? Well if you are looking for forgiveness then there is nothing better out there, so yes. If you are looking for distance and forgiveness then I would say no.
