Cobra AeroJet Driver review

Written By TJ Biggs

This year the team at Cobra have said the Aerojet driver will increase your clubhead speed. How could they do this? Well, it would come down to making the driver more aerodynamic. By doing this the driver will naturally increase speed, looking like you are swinging it faster.

Have they been able to do this?

The answer is no, my swing speed definitely didn’t increase and neither did my ball speed. However, my ball was better than Cobra’s last model the LTD, meaning they have improved over the last year’s model, so if you are a Cobra driver fanatic then this could be a great upgrade for you.

Let’s dive into the details are the testing.

Key Features of the Cobra AeroJet:

Looks

The Cobra Aerojet driver boasts a distinctive stretched bullet-shaped design, making it stand out on the course. The crown is predominantly covered in a sleek dark grey carbon fiber, with a thin matte black edge. The crowned C alignment aid is slightly off-center towards the heel, and you’ll find subtle Aerojet branding near the heel.

When you flip the driver over, you’ll notice a comparatively subdued sole, especially by Cobra’s typically vibrant standards.

All in all the driver looks really good at the address position, giving all levels of golfers confidence when standing over the ball.

Sound & Feel

On well-struck shots, the Cobra Aerojet driver produces a distinct mid-high pitched “pop” sound that’s louder than average. The A.I.-designed H.O.T. Face provides various sounds, especially on off-center hits, which can range from high-pitched metallic tones to dull thuds. While these sounds might be unconventional, they offer clear feedback on your swing quality.

The feel off the face is satisfying, allowing you to sense the ball’s trampoline effect when hitting the ball. The feedback through your hands helps pinpoint your strike location, enhancing your overall connection with the club.

Performance

One of the key promises of the Cobra Aerojet driver is the combination of low spin similar and enhanced forgiveness. In our testing, it lived up to this claim, providing low spin with substantial forgiveness.

Cobra has incorporated three essential technologies – the H.O.T. Face, PWR-BRIDGE, and PWRSHELL – into the Aerojet driver, ensuring consistent ball speed, launch angle, and spin across the face.

During our testing, the Cobra Aerojet driver consistently delivered predictable results. It exhibited a modest draw bias, strong launch angles, and low spin on nearly every shot. Whether for distance or direction, it provided a high level of predictability off the tee.

Cobra also says that the Aerojet drivers can deliver more club head speed, thanks to their aerodynamic shape with “raised skirt, symmetrical shaping, and streamlined edges.” In our testing, we didn’t find a significant increase in club head speed.

The Aerojet driver lineup includes variations like the Aerojet Max and Aerojet LS, offering options for higher launch with draw bias or lower launch with fade bias. Additionally, each Aerojet driver features an adjustable hosel for loft customization and multiple weight ports for altering swing weight and the center of gravity.

This is definitely not the longest driver on the market or the most forgiving. However, it is a step up from their previous models.

Control & Forgiveness

The Cobra Aerojet driver strikes an excellent balance between control and forgiveness. This driver’s forgiving nature ensures that even off-center hits can result in playable shots. The consistency in ball speed, launch angles, and spin across the face makes it easier to control your drives and predict your ball’s flight path. Whether you’re a high or mid-handicapper, the Aerojet driver provides the control you need to keep your shots on target.

Value for Money

Cobra’s Aerojet driver offers exceptional value for money. Coming in at $549, it is slightly cheaper than its competitors.

While it delivers top-tier performance and impressive features, its price point is notably more accessible than many high-end drivers on the market. This makes it an attractive option for golfers who want premium performance without breaking the bank.

You get cutting-edge technology and performance without the premium price tag, making the Aerojet a compelling choice for budget-conscious golfers.

ProsCons

Who is the club for?

The Cobra Aerojet driver caters to a broad range of golfers. It’s an excellent choice for mid to high handicappers who seek both forgiveness and distance off the tee. Its consistent performance and affordability make it suitable for golfers who want a reliable driver without the premium price tag.

Whether you’re looking to improve your control, reduce spin, or add distance to your drives, the Aerojet driver offers a versatile solution.

Our final thoughts on the Cobra AeroJet Driver

The Cobra Aerojet driver might not magically buy you more club head speed, but it does deliver on its promise of providing low spin and strong forgiveness. If you’re looking to make your tee shots more predictable, getting fitted for the Aerojet is a viable option.

It joins the ranks of standout drivers in 2023, offering impressive performance, aesthetics, and a slightly more affordable price point compared to some premium models on the market.

I was impressed with its numbers in my testing, and for any die-hard Cobra fans out there it is a must-buy. Cobra is definitely onto something here, I am looking forward to if Cobra can step it up one more notch with their next-gen model.
