TaylorMade Qi10 Driver Review

Written By TJ Biggs

TaylorMade’s Qi10 driver revolutionizes the concept of forgiveness and speed, challenging the traditional trade-off between the two, giving you more distance and forgiveness. With a focus on retaining ball speed while maximizing forgiveness, this driver represents a significant departure from conventional design principles.

I have always enjoyed TaylorMade drivers, so getting my hands on Qi10 was a treat. I really enjoyed it, it maybe spun a bit more than I liked, so I could either try a lower launching/spinning shaft or the LS head.

Let’s jump in.

First Thoughts and Findings

Having had the opportunity to test the TaylorMade Qi10 driver, I must say it left a lasting impression. The feel off the face was nothing short of incredible, offering a soft yet impressive “thud” noise that signaled exceptional feedback. Despite similarities in ball speeds compared to the Stealth 2, what truly stood out was its enhanced forgiveness, noticeably better than its predecessors. Interestingly, it definitely had less draw bias than the Max model and showcased more spin than the LS model. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed by its performance across the board.

What’s New?

The new TaylorMade Qi10 driver introduces several innovative features aimed at enhancing overall performance. With a lower CG projection and higher MOI compared to its predecessor. The Infinity Carbon Crown covers a vast portion of the crown area, allowing for strategic mass redistribution and heightened forgiveness. Improved energy transfer, thanks to the third generation of the 60X Carbon Twist Face®, ensures better ball speeds and maintained performance on off-center strikes. Additionally, proven TaylorMade technologies such as the loft sleeve and Thru-Slot Speed Pocket™ further contribute to optimizing loft, face angle, and preserving ball speed for exceptional performance.

Detailed Review

Looks

Sporting a streamlined TaylorMade head shape, the Qi10 driver maintains the brand’s signature aesthetic appeal. The Infinity Edge crown enhances forgiveness and offers a clean, simple look at address, while the navy blue carbon face adds a modern touch. I must be honest I have gotten so used to the TaylorMade having a line across the top of the head, it took a little getting used to. It reminded me of the Titleist driver. Having said that, I can see the majority of golfers enjoying the look of the drivers.

Sound & Feel

Delivering a muted yet powerful sound at impact, the Qi10 driver offers a satisfying feel that resonates with TaylorMade’s reputation for quality. The carbon crown and lightweight materials contribute to a balanced, solid sensation, reinforcing confidence with each swing. All three models have a very similar sound and feel at impact

Control & Forgiveness

Through innovative design and material integration, TaylorMade achieves a remarkable balance between forgiveness and speed. The redesigned face and increased MOI promote stability and minimize speed loss on off-center hits, while the streamlined head shape maintains aerodynamic efficiency. Although not as forgiving as the Qi10 Max, this driver offers a compelling blend of forgiveness and control.

Value for Money

At $599.99 you won’t be getting anything better on the market at that price. Golf equipment has gotten expensive. Is it worth it? Yes for sure. Can you find a cheaper driver with similar performance? For sure. You just need to decide on if gaining some extra distance and accuracy is worth the extra cash. For me personally I will be sticking with my Stealth Gen 1.

Performance

TaylorMade drivers are renowned for their exceptional performance, and the Qi10 is no exception. While it may fall slightly behind the Qi10 Max in terms of forgiveness, its impressive speed and accuracy make it a formidable contender in the driver market. Golfers seeking a balance between forgiveness and shot-shaping control will find the Qi10 an ideal choice.
