TaylorMade Qi10 Max Driver Review

Written By TJ Biggs

TaylorMade introduces the Qi10 Max Driver, the first in the Qi10 range to achieve the ground-breaking 10K MOI threshold, prioritizing maximum forgiveness without compromising distance. With a larger head size and focus on stability at impact, this driver aims to deliver unparalleled forgiveness and straightness while maintaining high ball speeds.

I was quite surprised with the testing, I didn’t think the ball speeds would be so high, as it is super forgiving. But I was consistently getting over 170mph. Every shot I hit had a draw, which means it is perfect for players who struggle with a fade/slice.

Let’s dive in.

First Thoughts and Findings

Having tested the TaylorMade Qi10 Max Driver, I was extremely impressed with its performance. The feel off the face was exceptional, offering a soft yet powerful thud noise that felt great at impact. It had similar ball speeds to the Stealth 2, but what set the Qi10 Max apart was its remarkable forgiveness. Every shot exhibited a draw shape, making it an excellent choice for players struggling with a fade. However, I found the head shape to be on the larger side, which might be a personal preference concern for those who prefer a more compact design. Overall, the driver’s forgiveness and draw-promoting capabilities make it an excellent choice for golfers seeking consistency and ease of play.

What’s New

The shallower head shape enhances stability by placing mass farther from the clubhead’s center. The new Infinity Carbon Crown, covering 97% of the crown, redistributes mass for enhanced forgiveness and a clean address view. The third-gen 60X Carbon Twist Face® ensures improved energy transfer, delivering consistent ball speeds even on off-center hits. The Qi10 Max redefines forgiveness and stability, providing golfers with an exceptional on-course experience. Increased MOI to 10K, making it TaylorMade’s most forgiving driver ever made.

Detailed Review

Looks:

The Qi10 Max showcases a distinct navy-blue face and an 8mm larger head compared to its predecessor, presenting a confident and unique appearance. The overall design, featuring a Carbon Crown wrapping over the top, offers a mechanical and modern aesthetic that sets it apart from previous TaylorMade models.

The head shape does look larger than expected, which may be off-putting to some. The face angle also appeared slightly closed at the address position.

Sound & Feel:

The driver provides a stable and forgiving feel, especially on off-center strikes, with the clubhead resisting unwanted shot shaping. While not necessarily delivering a noticeable increase in distance, the overwhelming sense of forgiveness and stability overshadow any minor speed differences. The sound was a satisfying thud.

Control & Forgiveness:

The Qi10 Max lives up to its promise of maximum forgiveness and straightness. Shots showed a consistent draw shape, catering to golfers seeking forgiveness with a draw bias. Strikes slightly off the heel result in straighter shots with slightly less carry, contributing to impressive left-to-right dispersion.

Value for Money:

Priced at $599, the Qi10 Max offers strong performance across categories, positioning it as a good value-for-money option in the market. Its consistent distance, low spin rates, and overall forgiveness make it a compelling choice for those seeking high-quality performance.

Performance:

The Qi10 Max performs exceptionally well in every category, delivering impressive distances, low spin rates, and strong right-to-left dispersion. With an average carry of just under 300 yards, it stands out as a driver that excels in terms of consistency and performance.
